Timaru Centre Details

About Us

We are local and well known tutors in Timaru.  We cater for all ages.

The Timaru Kip McGrath Education Centre was established in September 1992 as one of the first in New Zealand.

It was sold to the present owner in 1999. It soon outgrew its original site and was moved to larger, more accessible premises in 2000.

We are central, but there is easy parking and off-street stopping for safety at pick-up and drop-off times.

Our Educational team

Kip McGrath Timaru has an exceptionally talented team. Our tutors are NZ trained teachers.

  • Some have many years successful experience in teaching.
  • Others are young, intelligent, highly talented, energetic people.
  • All are chosen only after proving themselves to be at the highest level of teaching skill.
  • All show high sensitivity to children's and parents' needs.
  • All are constantly improving skills in curriculum developments and children's needs
  • All are independent thinkers who are eager to meet parents' needs.
  • All love working with children and love teaching.
Our Tutoring Philosophy
  • Careful and wide ranging pre assessment
  • Full, open results and reporting
  • Individual programmes written for each child and constantly adjusted to suit needs.
  • Very low tutor to student ratios, 1 to 5 maximum.
  • Teach what you want your children to learn, not to a political agenda.
  • Raise self-confidence in a subject and the child's whole attitude improves
  • For remedial students, begin at a level that gives instant success and build on from there.
  • 85% to 95% success rate that builds confidence and gives maximum progress.
  • Help gifted children to accept challenges, learn to potential and develop work skills.

What our Students and Parents Say

There's been such a change in G. since he began to be successful. He is happier, the school is delighted, and we all get on much better at homework time. Private tutoring has solved so many problems.

Parent Mrs W.

Kip McGrath Timaru discovered that R. has a common affliction but the medical people and school hadn't picked it up. She is much happier now that she has been treated She can learn and progress normally at school.

Parent Mum C.

N. just loves his extension lessons. He is really enthusiastic about maths and loves to be learning at the limits of his potential. Parent Mum R.

It's cool. I can read now. I have gone up two reading groups since I began coming to Kip McGrath for help with reading. Now I know I am smart and I don't feel so shy in class. Primary Student P.

My Year 10 teachers wanted me to do cab. classes, but Dad knew I could do better. Last year I passed all my NCEA 1 internal and external maths papers. I got several merits and an excellence. Even I was surprised. They have confidence in you there (at Kip McGrath) and take the time to explain things fully and as many times as I need. Secondary Student H.

It's going to be much cheaper and convenient to complete my Master's Degree at home through online tutoring. I can keep up my job and my sports. Tertiary Student R.
