About Us

As one of the 100 Kip McGrath Centres throughout New Zealand, and one of the 680 franchises throughout the world, we have an internationally trusted name in tutoring. The Taumarunui Kip McGrath Centre has been open since 2007, supporting schools and families by providing language and maths tuition to children in the Ruapehu district.

The centre is located in a newly renovated office in Central King Country REAP. Access to the centre is off Hayes Lane and there is a car park across the road for parents to safely drop off and pick up children from.

Kip McGrath Director Katharine Beaumont oversees this centre along with the Te Kuiti Centre.  She is ably assisted by local school teacher, Liz Bright, who manages and tutors in the centre on a day to day basis.  The centre has a range of specialist programmes and is therefore able to cater for a great number of students and a diverse range of learning needs.

Liz has:

  • a love of education and of teaching children
  • management experience and skills in working with people of all ages
  • practical and current classroom experience
  • experience with planning for individual needs in multi-level teaching environments
  • a very professional yet caring approach to people

    Together Liz and Katharine use their experience and skills to recognise and plan for individual learning needs in the most effective way.

    What We Do

    At the Taumarunui Centre we provide the following tuition:

    Pre School
    • getting ready for school in literacy
    • letter and number formation
    • getting ready for school in numeracy 

    Primary School
    • Little learners - support for the first years at school
    • maths tutoring, including the numeracy approach
    • literacy, including reading, comprehension, written language, spelling and handwriting
    Secondary School
    • Maths tutoring to Year 10
    • English tutoring to Year 10
    • Specialist tutoring for Years 11, 12 and 13 in maths, English and other subjects for both NCEA and Unit Standards upon enquiry and upon availability of tutors
    Course Features and Benefits

    At Kip McGrath material is graded so that progress is constant and accelerated. Our students work through their own individual programme which is planned to motivate and challenge. The confidence gained through success enables them to achieve their potential.

    We provide:
    •  Free educational assessment for all new students
    • Individual educational programmes that get the best from each child
    • 80 minute sessions including one to one teaching
    • A balance of cutting edge computer programmes and traditional book work
    • Sessions Monday to Friday at 3:30pm and 5:00pm
    • Sessions during the day when required
    • Regular re-assessments with parent/tutor discussions
    • Ngai Tahu funding for students who qualify for this
    • Flexible payment options

    Our centre reinforces that optimum accelerated learning occurs when the following factors are in place:
    • Supportive home environment
    • Active engagement in school learning
    • Tutoring programme that is tailored to the student's needs

    We are therefore a factor of the equation, not the complete solution. We believe home study and school effort are just as vital as the tutoring programme. This is why we reward work effort, attitude to learning and homework completion in our centres.
