About Us

Kip McGrath Rotorua has been up and running since 1992 and was one of the first centres to be established in New Zealand. At the beginning of 2003, current director, Angela Gunn bought the Rotorua Centre after two years of managing.

Angela was teaching English at Rotorua Lakes High School when she first came to work at Kip McGrath as a part-time tutor. She enjoyed the experience so much, that, after 12 years of classroom teaching, decided to take up the challenge of full-time tutoring.

Angela is greatly appreciative of the 15 highly skilled and experienced tutors who work at the Rotorua Centre. These talented individuals are able to teach from pre-school to higher secondary school students in a wide range of subjects.

Helping others to reach their true potential educationally or personally has always been the most important focus of Angela’s work. Kip McGrath provides an environment where the emphasis is on meeting individual needs, no matter how great or small they may be

In her spare time, Angela is actively involved in her church group and enjoys spending the odd fine day fishing in the sunny Bay of Plenty with husband of 18 years, Hamish.

What We Do

The core programmes offered at Kip McGrath Rotorua are accelerated learning in mathematics, English, spelling and reading for year 1 to 10 students. In the first instance, students attend a free assessment in order to ascertain specific learning needs. After discussion with parents, students are set an individualised programme.

Students work in small groups with qualified, experienced teachers, who are committed to helping children improve. Programmes are continually monitored for maximum benefit to the students. Because the Kip McGrath programme aims to meet the needs of the individual student, a range of multi-media resources are used. Regular reassessments are carried out to gauge student progress.

Lesson duration is 80 minutes in which time tutors focus on areas highlighted in the initial assessment and address further areas as they aride.

The centre is also able to offer:

• study skills
• essay writing
• ESOL
• Intelligence Development programmes
