The Kip McGrath Education Centre in Papatoetoe was established in by Chiman Kesha in the year 2000 in order to offer a private tuition service to the school-aged students of South Auckland.
The Centre specialises in English and Mathematics, although other subjects are also offered, depending on demand.
At the Papatoetoe Centre, our teachers strive to get the best out of their students so that they are in a position to learn at their highest possible level at school. The goal is to help children entrusted to us to become more capable, confident and independent students at school and of life and, therefore, to be able to look forward to a brighter future.
Our Educational Team
Our Director – Chiman Kesha M.Ed., B.Psych., Dip.Ed., Dip Tchg.
Chiman Kesha is a fully qualified, New Zealand born and trained teacher with over 20 years experience in the New Zealand education system. He has been a senior manager (both Assistant and Deputy Principal), responsible for teacher training, school administration and curriculum development.
Chiman has also taught children of many diverse cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds, especially in South Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty. He gains great pleasure and satisfaction from the fact that, at Kip McGrath, he is able to provide a learning environment which makes a telling difference to the prospects and lives of our young people.
Our Teachers – All are fully qualified, NZ registered and hand-picked.
As befits their professional status, our teachers bring to bear a high level of expertise, commitment and care to their Kip McGrath students. As one commented, “It is really rewarding to see all students actively and happily engaged. While here, I feel I am able to really help my students to learn how to think, question and, in general, become better students.”
What We Do
We cater to a wide spectrum of student abilities, which is best understood by taking a closer look at who attends Kip McGrath:
- Students who experience difficulty with spelling, writing, reading, English or mathematics usually find their confidence and self-esteem suffer. These students attend to have their performance raised to an appropriate level and beyond.
- Those who are achieving moderately or very well, but wish to raise their level of achievement even further, attend for extension work.
- Many students wish to attain, and then maintain, the highest level achievement of which they are capable. Such motivated ‘high-flyers’ attend to obtain on-going support during their studies.
Our Programmes: All sessions are 80 minutes in duration.
For Years 2-3 to Year 10 Students:
Our core programme consists of English and Mathematics, central to which are elements comprising the basic skills in both subjects.
English includes reading, spelling, writing, and listening and, if necessary, speech. It also includes ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages).
Mathematics includes understanding and working with number (ie. Numeracy), arithmetic, problem-solving, algebra, decimals, fractions, percentages, statistics and geometry.
For Years 11+ Students
Exam level: Specialist senior –level classes with a focus on developing the depth and breadth of each student’s understanding, and on successfully negotiating on-going assessments and exams. The principal subjects offered are English and Mathematics, while other subjects may be offered from time to time depending on demand. A major aspect of the English programme is Essay Writing.
