About Us

Since 1995 David and Valerie Dyer have been offering tuition in Maths and English to children who need extra help with their schoolwork. Their centres are well established and have a reputation for providing excellent tuition to students from Year 3 to NCEA Level 1.

David and Valerie bring to their centre a wealth of experience in the field of education. David has had seventeen years experience as a principal and ten years experience as a deputy principal in Silverdale Normal School while Valerie is a former Reading Recovery teacher as well as having over ten years experience as an Irlen Screener.

In Morrinsville they operate their cosy, friendly centre from their home at 138 Studholme Street while in Matamata they are above the Resene Colour Shop across the road from the library at 3 Tui Street. Both centres are air-conditioned and provide a comfortable learning environment.

What We Do

Kip McGrath Education has an internationally trusted name in the field of private tutoring centres and supplementary education, with over 680 franchises in 20 countries.

We are aware that in order for children to be successful they must experience success. Many children who come to our centres have found learning frustrating and as a result have stopped trying. Others students come for extension while others may have learning difficulties. We create a warm, friendly environment – children are comfortable with us and find that they can not only learn but, but can enjoy the process of learning.

Our aim is to help your child gain confidence and achieve success at school now, knowing that these skills will lead to greater success in the future.

We specialize in teaching Year 3 to Year 11 students the basics:
  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Spelling
  • Reading

A free assessment is given prior to starting, the parents’ concerns are established and the results of the assessment are discussed in confidence.

Children are given individualized programmes, tailored to their needs, which they work on within a small group setting. Within each 80–minute session we use a variety of multi-media resources, including computers, audio CDs, books and work sheets, all of which help motivate children to succeed.

Each child is given homework to reinforce the lesson. It is important that this is done in order to maximize progress.

What Our Students and Parents Say

Tarryn came for maths tutoring in 2007. She was in Year 11 but was in an extension class doing year 12 maths. The tutoring allowed her to discuss the finer points and clarify areas of confusion. She gained “achieved” and “merits” for her topics.

When Jared was asked how tutoring had helped him he said: “It has helped me to fit in and feel brainier. I used to be in the lowest maths group. Then I went up to the middle group and now I’m in the highest group. Kip McGrath has made it easier for me at school…”

Laticia, a Year 5 student from Matamata, says: “I do actually learn something new every time I go To Kip McGrath.”

Mrs Anderson said: “The time at Kip McGrath helped Jessica gain in confidence and she is now in control of her progress.”

Mrs Ann Kristensen says concerning Irlen : “My daughter and I have blue tinted lenses with different blends in the tints. My son is using an orange tinted overlay. Both my children have benefited from the lenses and overlay. My son has found it has helped his reading a lot while my daughter has found the lenses stop things from going blurry and make everything clearer. For me the computer screen is a lot clearer and I am able to stay focused without needing to use my finger to get my eyes back in place. I no longer need to look away to give my eyes a break…”
