Kilbirnie Centre Details
About Us
The Kilbirnie Kip McGrath Education Centre was established in 1996 by Jonathan and Dianne Anderson. Since that time it has catered to the tutoring needs of students in the South and East Wellington areas.
In 2002 the franchise was taken over by Susanna Spence, the previous franchisee of the Gisborne Kip McGrath Centre. Susanna has over 20 years of experience in education. Her specialist areas are Reading and senior English. Her first hand knowledge of students of all ages enables her to recognize each child’s individual learning needs and ultimately helps students thrive. Since moving to Wellington in 2002 Susanna has become a passionately committed Wellingtonian enjoying the range of study and cultural opportunities the city has in such abundance. She lives locally, close to adult children and grandchildren. |

Our Educational Team
The Kilbirnie Kip McGrath Education Centre teachers are an exceptional team who provide caring support for all students – from those needing extra Maths tutoring to students wanting to push themselves a little harder with our Extension Programmes. All our tutors are trained and experienced teachers with special ability to encourage and motivate students.
Our Teaching Philosophy
The Kilbirnie Kip McGrath Education Centre privides a positive and supportive learning environment which promotes self esteem, boosts every child’s confidence and helps them achieve their personal best. The team’s goal is to make learning fun!
Bringing your child in for a FREE assessment and consultation is the best thing you’ll ever do for them. Since taking over the centre several years ago we have assessed, taught and monitored the education of in excess of 3000 students.
We are able to provide educational success for students by taking their learning seriously through
- Employing trained teachers – not high school students
- Having one hour twenty minute lessons – not sixty minutes
- Using a variety of skills based learning approaches – not just computer learning
- Individualized programmes in numeracy, literacy, reading writing and spelling.
The enormous benefit of tuition can be seen in an improvement in skills, knowledge and application. With the success in achievement at school comes the inevitable increase in self confidence and self esteem. Tuition reinforces successful learning habits and instills learning as something to be valued throughout life.

What our Students and Parents Say
When Max commenced study with Kip McGrath he immediately started to enjoy the lessons. This even flowed on to his wanting to do his homework. Now he has finished a full year what a difference it has made! It has boosted his self esteem and he now has a completely different attitude to school in general.
B & A Pocock, Wellington
The mature and experienced Kip McGrath tutor has given my granddaughter a sense of stability and support in her learning. The interest taken in her progress and the wairua of the centre mean a great deal to us.
P Wainui,Wellington
Three of my granddaughters have attended Kip McGrath when they needed help to come up to the class average in their weakest subjects, and in one case to be helped with severe spelling problems. Good results have been achieved and the children have appreciated the support and consideration of the tutors.
