About Us
The Epsom/Remuera Kip McGrath Education Centre opened in April 2010 under the directorship of Tim Burgess as part of the Central Auckland franchise.
Tim is a well qualified educator, holding a BA (English and History), Diploma in Teaching. He formerly taught at Saint Kentigern School. Tim is a member of the Principal’s Centre, Harvard University and also has qualifications in Gifted Education and Speech & Drama.
Tim has established two other successful Centres in Mt Eden and Ponsonby which help over 250 students each year. Demand has proved so great throughout the area that we have opened the Kip McGrath Epsom/Remuera Centre to meet the needs of all our customers. At the primary level we specialize in Literacy & Mathematics, with resources fully co-ordinated with NZ National Standards.

The basic system in Kip McGrath is simple: first, children are assessed to determine their strengths and weaknesses in Reading, Spelling, Comprehension, Writing, Grammar and Maths. This is a FREE comprehensive assessment followed by a consultation with parents. An Individual Education Plan is written based on this assessment to suit the individual student’s needs. We also consider individual learning styles as this can have a huge impact on children's learning ability.
These elements make Kip McGrath Epsom/Remuera different from other tuition centres:
CHILDREN'S PROGRAMMES ARE BASED ON THEIR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS & LEARNING STYLES.
Children are taught individually within a group setting. Dedicated, experienced teachers work with a maximum of five students. Each child works on their individual programme getting one-on-one assistance as required. We teach basic skills in English and Maths at the level required by the child. Secondary students can also work in areas required for their school programme. At Kip McGrath Epsom/Remuera, Teacher Assistants are employed to assist with Spelling testing and Reading programmes. Experience shows us that children do not require one-one assistance all the time and as such, we encourage the development of independent learning. |

EXTENSION, GIFTED STUDENTS & YEAR 9 TESTING PREP
The Epsom/Remuera Centre also caters for children who want to keep up and get ahead at school. Extension programmes, scholarship preparation & Year 9 Entry Testing Preparation, can also be designed to cater for individual needs.
Gifted students can be catered for through a working partnership with the Gifted Support Centre located at our Ponsonby Centre. (Link to follow)
LITERACY AND NUMERACY LEARNING SUPPORT
Many of our students require assistance with reading, comprehension and writing. At Kip McGrath Epsom/Remuera our staff specialize in developing a comprehensive programme for each student, especially early learners. Similar assistance is available in Maths support and Numeracy.
We have also had enormous success working with students who have learning and attention difficulties. In addition to providing these students with Maths and English tuition, Kip McGrath Epsom/Remuera encourages them to take ownership of their learning and behaviour and develop strategies to overcome challenges.
DYSLEXISA AND THE STEPS PROGRAMME FROM THE LEARNING STAIRCASE
In 2009, Kip McGrath embraced new learning programmes for Dyslexic Students through a partnership with the LEARNING STAIRCASE. This assists dyslexic students of all ages to achieve greater success. ESL is available for both children and adults. Intellectual and Memory development is incorporated into all children’s programmes as well as new Study Skills and Exam Preparation program. Our teachers have huge professional experience in early Literacy & Numeracy and Reading Comprehension & Writing for all ages. |

HOW TO GET THERE ….
Parents can drive thru from Remuera Road with parking available behind the Hall for drop-off and pick-up. The drive – thru exits onto St Marks Road.
Kip McGrath Epsom/Remuera Centre caters for students from Epsom, Remuera, Newmarket, Parnell and Central Auckland.
